    LAU Cheuk-Ho Fredrick 劉卓豪 Graduating with First Class Honours in Bachelor of Arts in Music from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Frederick LAU currently pursues Master of Music in Composition at McGill University under the supervision of Prof. Melissa HUI. His undergraduate and graduate studies were funded by numerous scholarships, including the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme, HSBC Overseas Scholarship Scheme, C. F. Hu Postgraduate Memorial Scholarship, Bernard Van Zuiden Music Prize, etc. Recent works include compositions written for solo marimba, solo carillon, tape, solo violin and electronics, and horn trio. The tape composition, Interbeing, was selected to be performed at the annual conference of Canadian University Music Society in the Congress 2021 of the Humanities and Social Sciences. Having studied composition with Prof. Wendy LI, Prof. Stephen CHATMAN, and Dr. William SO, LAU’s compositions have been premiered by various professional musicians, e.g., Between Contrasts (2018) performed by Contrast Trio, A Game of Banality (2018) performed by Hong Kong Wind Kamerata in the New Generation Composition Competition 2018 held by Hong Kong Composers’ Guild, and Tiptoes (2020) by Cong Quartet.   • CHEN Yeung-ping 陳仰平 | Hong Kong Composers' Guild

    CHEN Yeung-ping 陳仰平 Chen Yeung-ping (Hong Kong, born 1983) has received degrees from Hong Kong Baptist University, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego), and studied with Lei Liang, Clarence Mak, Law Wing-fai, and Chistopher Coleman. The recipient of the Asian Cultural Council’s Altius Fellowship, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund, and the CASH Music Scholarship, Chen was named a finalist for the Rivers Awards Competition in Shanghai and was later commissioned by Steven Schick and La Jolla Symphony & Chorus to compose “The Moon in a Jolla” a telematic symphonic work inspired by a poem of the late Hong Kong poet Yasi. Chen was also a composer-fellow for the Ensemble 2010 Project in Darmstadt Summer Festival, the International Ensemble Modern Academy in 2011, and June in Buffalo 2012, and worked with groups from all over the world, includes Ensemble Modern, JACK Quartet, Ensemble Dal Niente, Tactus Ensemble, Mivos Quartet, UMS n’ JIP, the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, and the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong.     CHANG Herbert# 張海伯 Born in 1948, California, U.S.A. In 1959, at age 11, Chang entered Chinese Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. The study started from elementary and then high school. In 1966, the Cultural Revolution interrupted his study, and in 1968, he was sent to Tianjing Gegu Farm to receive re-education. He grew rice there. Three and half years later, the government assigned him a violinist position in the Chinese Central Ballet, which at that time was a model troupe of Mao’s wife. In 1978, he was transferred back to the Central Conservatory to teach at the high school department. In 1979, Chang returned to the U.S, and studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Currently, he is a violin teacher in the U.S, and also a composer with two violin text books published by Mel Bay Music Publications; “Forty Studies for Violin” and “Daily Scale Exercises for Violin”. 於1948年出生於美國加利福尼。 (父母均為留美學生)1959年進入中央音樂學院附小, 然後附中學習。 1966年文化大革命爆發,學業停止。 1968年被送到天津葛沽農場接受“再教育”。張在農場種水稻。 1972年被分配到中央芭蕾舞團工作。 (當時是江青的樣板團)於1978年被調回中央音樂學院附中任教。 1979年赴美。 1979到1982年在美國舊金山音樂學院學習。現在在美國做小提琴教師並且從事音樂創作。在美國出版了“小提琴練習曲40首”,和“小提琴每日音階練習”兩部著作。 (由美國 Mel Bay 公司出版)最近完成了“特出小提琴技術練習”一書以及一些樂曲,其中包括小提琴獨奏曲8首,中提琴獨奏曲1首,大提琴獨奏曲1首,弦樂四重奏一部。 (4個樂章) MAJOR WORKS 主要作品 Two violin text-books have been published in the U.S. They are “Forty Studies for Violin” and “Daily Scale Exercises for Violin”.     CHENG Chin-man 鄭展文 Cheng Chin Man is presently an artist in residence of The Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) in Hong Kong. He is fascinated by both visual art and music. His works include painting, installation and contemporary music. He studied Sound Design and Music Recording at The Hong Kong Academy For Performing Arts and graduated in 2000. In the same year he was awarded "Best Student Music Composer" and "Best Student Sound Designer" for theatre production by the academy. He then began to focus on composing and was self-taught. From 2002 to 2004 he was funded by The British Council Chevening Postgraduate Scholarships for his Masters Degree in Composition (Mus.M in Composition) at The University of Manchester. He studied composition with Professor Philip Grange, and electro-acoustic composition with Dr. David Berezan. His electro-acoustic composition “Amalgamation” (2004) was featured and also his composer webpage was launched by Pytheas Center for Contemporary Music (US) in 2011. His “Piano Suite No.88.1-11” (2007-2011) was premiered in Hong Kong in 2012 by Jeremy Young, and is released on CD by The Hong Kong Composers’ Guild in 2013. The piano suite consists of 11 piano pieces of different styles. Each piece consists of only the 88 different pitches available on the piano, and each of those 88 pitches appear only once. It is believed that this is the first time in music history that this concept has been applied. Cheng Chin Man has developed certain unique musical concepts in his output.   • BOO Chun-kit 布俊傑 | Hong Kong Composers' Guild

    BOO Chun-kit 布俊傑 Boo Chun Kit graduated in 2016 from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in composition and electronic music. Afterwards, he pursued further study in the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Media (MFACM) degree programme at City University of Hong Kong and graduated in 2018. He was selected to take part in Sig. Tune for Hong Kong Museum of Art: Creative Music Programme in 2019. He composed A Flowing Tune of Paints under the theme of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy. This work has been broadcast in the exhibition and different media platforms. Besides, his duet piece Worries have been performed in different concerts. He is also keen on multimedia production, and exploring the possibilities of music through different presentations and perspectives.   • LAW Daniel 羅炳良 | Hong Kong Composers' Guild

    LAW Daniel 羅炳良 Daniel Law is a renowned Hong Kong composer, conductor, senior music educator and sacred music scholar. He was Professor in the Department of Music and the Dean of Arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He also served many terms as Council member and trustee of CUHK, Chung Chi College and the China Graduate School of Theology. In his own church, the North Point Alliance Church, he contributed in building up a comprehensive working team in its music and worship ministry. Professor Law has been actively engaged in both the musical and scholarly sectors. He has had numerous composition commissions, and had published academic articles, books and edited many anthologies, conference proceedings, helped produced several Protestant hymnals and anthem books. Professor Law attended King’s College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Northwestern University at Evanston, Illinois. His composition mentors included Antonio Donato and Alan Stout, while his conducting teachers were Dr Wing-Hei Wong of Hong Kong, Margaret Hillis of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Stephen Cleobury of King’s College, Cambridge University. He has been invited as a visiting scholar by the Dept of Music at Harvard University, and a visiting research professor at CCRMA, Stanford University. After retirement from CUHK, his interest has shifted to Music Theology and Liturgical Music. Recently, he spent two years at the School of Theology at Boston University as research scholar.     LI Kar-yee 李嘉怡 LI Kar-yee is a Hong Kong-born composer. She produced numbers of concerts in the public with her compositions of different genres performed, including orchestra, ensembles, choir music, electronic music and multi-media productions. She collaborated with artists from different medias with her compositions premiered in recent years, including 2022 New Music Festival in Seoul (Korea), Flowing Sound in 2019, HK Musicarama in 2017, 2009 and 2006, HKAPA 30th Anniversary Concert, La Sax the 7th Annual Concert, Spotlight Series 3 – Rendering, Spotlight Series 2 – Sing East Hit West, Hell Hot New Music Festival, The Carmerata Annual, The Bel Canto Singers Annual Concert and HK-Macao Collaboration Concert. Li’s compositions were also awarded as the best composition in the HK New Generation Composition Competition in 2006 and 1st runner-up in 2003, and selected as the HK Young Composer Representative in the Bangkok ACL (Asian Composers’ League) in 2005. After receiving her Master Degree of Music with full-scholarship in The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Li committed actively in music education and promoting creative art for the young generation. She has been teaching composition and music creating courses at the HK Academy for Performing Arts and Education University of Hong Kong.     CHAN Ming-chi 陳明志 Chan Ming-chi studied music at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, Elizabeth Music University , Shanghai Conservatory of Music for his master , PhD degree and post-doctorate programme respectively, researching in music composition, multi-media theatre music and Asian ethic music. His musical language covers a characteristic perception of sounds and their attribute, reflecting the consideration and integration of various factors such as the nature of sound itself, space-time effects, dramatic thinkings and philosophy of oriental culture.     CHENG Anthony 鄭汝森 Anthony Cheng - a songwriter, film and contemporary music composer, sound engineer and music producer in Hong Kong. His debut on the music scene was as a pianist and composer. As a frequent-awarded composer in multidisciplinary fields of music composition, Cheng’s music consists of an eclectic inspiration of a variety of musical styles. Cheng completed his master degree in music at King's College, London and Ph.D. at the University of Hong Kong. His former composition teachers include Dr. Joshua Chan at HKU, Dr. Silvina Milstein and Professor Sir Harrison Birtwistle at King's. He was a pupil of Denise Ham in orchestral conducting at the Royal Academy of Music. His compositions have been performed internationally at ISCM (Hong Kong 2002), Asia Ocarina Festival (Japan 2012; Taiwan 2016), Musicacoustica-Beijing (Beijing 2014, 2017), IDRS (Tokyo 2015), and in various countries and cities such as Hong Kong, Macau, United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Japan, China, and Taiwan. Cheng also appeared as composer and conductor with ensembles and orchestras including London University Symphony Orchestra, Surrey Philharmonic Orchestra (UK), Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Medical Association Orchestra, HKU Union Philharmonic Orchestra, Lontano (UK) and King’s Harmonica Quintet (HK). Besides, Cheng has been frequently commissioned to write new works by Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Hong Kong Composers’ Guild, Music Office LCSD, several music affiliations and independent artists/musicians.
