WONG Hung-pok 黃鴻博 Hung-pok is a Hong Kong-born composer who has received multifaceted music training including choral, Chinese and Western percussion, cello, and composition since a young age. With such a diverse background, his compositional interests span from serious and popular music. Wong’s research focuses on the representation of extramusical elements in actual music and the derivation of musical concepts into reality. Over the years, Wong has actively participated in the music education industry while continuing to compose. In 2021, he was awarded full assistantship and employment by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the United States to pursue a Master of Music degree in string pedagogy. During his time in the U.S., he also immersed himself in music composition, leading to his pursuit of another Master of Music degree at his alma mater, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in music. Wong served as the principal cellist during his school days in the U.S. Upon returning to Hong Kong, he remains an active section cellist and percussionist in various Western and Chinese orchestras. He is also a holder of the Licentiate Diploma in cello performance (LTCL) from Trinity College London with distinctions. CALL FOR SCORES - NEW GENERATION 2025 First held in 1989, the New Generation Concert aims at encouraging music creativity among young composers in Hong Kong by providing a platform for performance and exchange of musical ideas. Selected compositions for New Generation 2025 will be held on 12th June 2025 (Thursday) at RTHK Studio One and recorded by RTHK Radio 4 to be broadcast later. The concert will be performed by the Brassdivo. Submission Details: 1. This Call for Scores is open to Hong Kong residents born on or after 12th June 1995. 2. Eligible composers can only submit one work in PDF file. No other medium of the score, such as recording, is accepted. 3. The duration of each work should be within 5 minutes. An accurate duration of the work must be stated on the score. 4. The work should be written for brass quintet (2 trumpets, 1 French horn, 1 trombone, and 1 tuba). 5. If conducting is required, the composer should conduct the work himself/herself. 6. The entire score (including notation, symbols, necessary instructions to performers, and duration) must be typed and in black-and-white only. Hand-written score will not be accepted. Only the title and instrumentation of the composition in both English and Chinese can be shown on the title page. Name and the institution of composer cannot appear anywhere on the score. Violators will be disqualified. 7. Application fees: Waived for all members* of the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild Limited (HKCG). HK$200 for composers who are not members of HKCG. Payment must be deposited into the Guild’s HSBC account at 636-474546-838. Please keep the deposit slip. Application without the slip will be disqualified. 8. All submissions must include a score in PDF file, a copy of Hong Kong ID, a completed application form in PDF file, and a deposit slip (if any). They should be sent via email to grace@hkcg.org on or before 6pm, 6th April 2025 (Sunday). Late applications will not be considered. * Membership must be confirmed at the time of submission. New application or application in process will not be considered as member. Selection Arrangement: 1. A jury panel, appointed by the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild Limited, will select works on grounds of artistic merit and performance practicality. The decision of the jury panel is final. Results will be announced in mid April 2025 through the HKCG website: www.hkcg.org. Shortlisted composers will be notified by email. 2. Each shortlisted composer must: provide full score and parts, a short programme note, a biography (maximum 200 words each) in English and Chinese, and a recent photo of high-resolution on or before 12pm, 18th April 2025 (Friday); attend rehearsals and the New Generation Concert 2025. Composers who fail to attend the concert will be disqualified. Award: There are three cash awards for the most outstanding compositions: 1st place HK$6,000; 2nd place HK$4,000; 3rd place HK$2,000. Apart from organising concerts, publishing scores and producing recordings of works by Hong Kong composers, HKCG also takes an active part in arousing interest in composition especially amongst youths and in developing music as a vital creative art form in Hong Kong. Organising composition competitions and sending composers to the community and schools are its regular activities. HKCG works closely with professional musicians and institutions in not just concert performances, but orchestration workshops, field trips, forum, commissions, and community services. As one of the cultural ambassadors of our city, HKCG has also established strong links with many international organisations and has played a significant role in international music exchanges. HKCG's predecessor is the Hong Kong Section of the Asian Composers League which was founded in 1973. HKCG is also a National Section of the International Society for Contemporary Music. It also co-operates with RTHK to send a composer as representative to the International Rostrum of Composers each year. Since July 2010, HKCG has become one of the Year Grantees of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

TSANG Lok-yan 曾樂欣 TSANG Lok-yan received her Master’s degree (MMus, Composition) with Distinction at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), and Bachelor of Music in Education (Contemporary Music and Performance Pedagogy) from the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) in 2018. TSANG is also the certificate holder of distinction in LRSM in Piano (2016), distinction in Grade 8 Violin of ABRSM (2014), merit in Grade 8 Theory (2012). TSANG is a member of the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Limited (CASH). Being enthusiastic in composing, TSANG’s works have been performed in Hong Kong, the United States and Costa Rica. TSANG won the third prize at the New Generation 2016, a competition hosted by the Hong Kong Composers' Guild (HKCG) and RTHK4. Being the Chairlady of EdUHK Composition Society, TSANG is active to join different composition competitions and activities of call-for-scores. TSANG was the champion of Artistic Excellence Award (Composition) from EdUHK in 2017 and 2018. She was one of the three winners of the Tennessee Valley Music Festival - Young Composers' Forum 2017. Her work, Ballade Purple, was performed by the Huntsville Youth Orchestra and Orquesta Sinfónica del Mar in the summer of 2017. Her composition, Cupid and Psyche, was featured in “Match Making Concert 2018: Emerging Composers x Emerging Performers” organized by HKCG and RTHK4. Tsang has received her recent commissions from Hong Kong Composers’ Guild and Musicus Society. Her choral work, The Lord Will Send His Mercy, was published in The Hong Kong Children’s Choir 50th Anniversary Children’s Choral Songbook in 2018. Recently, TSANG was honored to be selected to take part in the Robert H. N. LAU Wing-fung Galison 劉詠浲 Mr. Lau’s compositions were performed or broadcasted in many places and events, including New Music From Hong Kong Concert in NYC; Intimacy of Creativity 2017 Contemporary Song Festival; ACL 2013 Singapore; ISCM – ACL World Music Days 2007; 2006 International Rostrum of Composers in Paris; the Lilian Baylis Theatre in Sadlers Wells, London; Musicarama 2005, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2017; New Generation 2005, 2006. Galison got several commissions, including Hong Kong Contemporary Music Festival 2018: Hong Kong Delights, Helsyd Piano Trio with Hong Kong New Music Ensemble in 2017; Hong Kong Arts Festival 2014; Spotlight On Young Musicians Concert Series 1; Musicarama 2010, 2012, and 2017. In 2009, Scents got the first prize of Harry Archer Memorial Scholarship. He was asked to compose a piece for the inauguration of the Wellcome Theatre in HKAPA.
