LAI Miu-yeung 黎渺揚 Israel LAI Miu-yeung is a composer, arranger, piano accompanist, conductor, orchestral violinist, translator and hyperpolyglot from Hong Kong. He is currently an Esther Yewpick Lee Millennium Scholar reading for an MPhil in Music (Composition) at the University of Oxford, studying with Prof. Martyn Harry and Prof. Robert Saxton, following his graduation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2018 with a first-class honours Bachelor of Arts in Music, where he studied composition with Prof. Lee Wan-ki Wendy, Dr. Chan Kai-young, and Prof. Chan Wai-kwong Victor. He was previously an exchange student at Lund University, Sweden. He is a member of the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild, the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong, and the American Guild of Organists (Hong Kong Chapter). Growing up in a Christian environment, Lai has served as pianist, assistant conductor and composer in residence at his church and made chamber arrangements of hymns, such as Christmas Suite (2016), as well as forays into the field of modernised Cantonese Christian music, such as Seven Last Words from the Cross (2018). Lai is eager to explore ways of combining and incorporating different musical idioms inside his compositions, from classical to modern to ethnic, from homogeneous to constantly changing. He is interested in a variety of instrumentations, especially woodwinds and large ensembles. Fascinated by large-scale classical forms, he has worked on his suite of Swedish Rhapsodies (2015-) for chamber ensembles and his Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra (2015-18). On the chamber side, his Rondo (2017) for wind quintet was acclaimed at the premiere, and Introduction and Intermezzo (2017) was broadcast on radio at the finals of New Generation Hong Kong 2017 competition. He gained international exposure with his Theme and Variations (2017) at the highSCORE Festival, Italy, Winter (2017) in Taiwan, and recently, his Playwright (2018), played by the renowned Mivos Quartet. He is always open to new influences and inspirations, and particularly interested in the applications of polytonality. TING Chung-wai Brian 丁宗偉 Brian Ting received his Master's degree in music composition from The Chinese University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Prof. Wendy Lee. He previously studied composition with Prof. Victor Chan and Dr. Lo Hau-man. His music has been premiered by Atlas Ensemble, Hong Kong Kamerata, Trio de TST and Chinese Music Virtuosi. His composition for Chinese Music Virtuosi, "Slashes of Frost and Wind", was awarded both the David Gwilt Composition Prize and audience prize. His composition "Flower Burial under a Pallid Moon" won the second prize in New Generation 2012 organized by Hong Kong Composers' Guild. He is also the recipient of numerous musical awards, including the Bernard van Zuidan Music Prize and the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Scholarship. 丁宗偉現為香港中文大學作曲碩士，師隨李允琪教授。丁氏亦曾跟隨陳偉光教授及盧厚敏博士研習作曲。丁氏的作品曾由Atlas Ensemble, 管樂雅集、TST三重奏及龢鳴樂坊首演。他為龢鳴樂坊而作的作品「風刀霜劍」獲頒紀大衛作曲獎之餘亦被觀眾選為當晚最佳作品。他的「殘月葬花」贏得音樂新一代2012的第二名。他亦獲頒多個獎學金，包括Bernard van Zuidan 音樂獎以及香港作曲家及作詞家協會獎學金。 MAJOR WORKS 主要作品 Back

View All Other Pages (246) CHEN Chi-wai 陳智偉 | Hong Kong Composers' Guild CHEN Chi-wai 陳智偉 Dr. Jason Chen graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music in 1995 with a Bachelor of Music Degree, majoring in composition and piano with a 4-year scholarship. He later furthered his musical studies at the Hong Kong Baptist University, receiving the Master of Arts (majoring in composition and electro-acoustic music) and Diploma of Education (majoring in Music) respectively in 2000 and 2002. A composer, pianist and researcher, he studied jazz piano and arranging with Prof. Kim Park, and composition under tutorship of Prof. James Mobberley and Prof. John Chen, and has written over 40 compositions including works for orchestra, chamber music, electroacoustic music and writing music for TV commercials, movie soundtracks. His works have been published by Warner music, Universal music, Sony music, Capital Artist, What’s music and EEG Records. Jason is currently the Assistant Professor in the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts at the Hong Kong Institute of Education. He is also a PhD in music technology at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University, Australia, researching on multi-media music composition. His articles have been published by the top-ranked journals such as International Journal of Music Education, Research Studies in Music Education and Music Education Research. Drawing from his Chinese heritage, Zheng's compositions are infused with distinctive cultural elements, merging traditional themes and folk materials with contemporary and innovative expressions to create a unique musical language reflective of modern China. His compositions, Rosefinch, was awarded the Grand Prize winner in the Golden Bells International Composition Contest and was premiered by the Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra of the U.S.A. at Carnegie Hall in 2022; Beyond the Sky, was awarded the 3rd Prize, Musicacoustica - Hangzhou 2023, Electroacoustic Music Composition Competition. 《春之息》這個作品探索了春天的多面性——從悄悄萌芽的種子到繁花似錦的景象，再到動物們蘇醒的活力。此作品為打擊樂四重奏所作，四位樂手的互動不僅反映了自然界中種種生物的相互作用，也象徵著春天生命循環的不斷輪迴。通過這個作品在表達春日氣息之餘，也提醒著人們對這份脆弱之美的珍惜，對步入新季節報以感動和憧憬。 Breath of Spring explores the multifaceted nature of spring — from the quietly sprouting seeds to the splendid vistas of blooming flowers, and the revived vitality of animals. This piece is composed for a percussion quartet, where the interaction among the four musicians not only reflects the interplay of various life forms in nature but also symbolizes the perpetual cycle of life that spring brings. This composition, while expressing the essence of spring, also serves as a reminder for people to cherish this delicate beauty and to embrace the new season with emotion and anticipation. Back LEUNG Ka-tung Tony 梁家棟 | Hong Kong Composers' Guild LEUNG Ka-tung Tony 梁家棟 Tony K.T. Leung’s compositions have been performed and broadcast in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Hong Kong, Korea, Luxembourg, Ukraine, the USA and Canada by leading contemporary music ensembles. Recordings of works by the composer include CD releases from Luxembourg Sinfonietta, ERMMedia, and Canadian Electroacoustic Community. Born in Hong Kong, Tony discovered music through his first instrument, the erhu, and later the cello. As a youth, he arranged music for a Chinese orchestra, which sparked an early interest in western music and composition. From 1989 to 1992, he studied composition privately with University of Toronto Professor Chan Ka Nin. He received further training through workshops with Arraymusic, Conductors Guild, Esprit Orchestra, National Arts Centre, Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, and New Adventures in Sound Art. Other performers of his music include Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble, Vienna Saxophone Quartet, Motion Ensemble, York Symphony Orchestra, and Regina Symphony Orchestra. As a conductor, he has directed Hong Kong Juvenile & Youth Chinese Classical Orchestra, Toronto Chinese Orchestra, Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble, and York University Chinese Music Ensemble. He is currently Composer-in-Residence with the Toronto Chinese Orchestra and Artistic Director of Dim Sum Ensemble. 梁家棟的音樂作品曾被現代著名的樂團演奏，並在澳洲、比利時、丹麥、法國、香港、韓國、盧森堡、烏克蘭、 美國及加拿大播放錄音，其中包括有盧森堡小交響樂團、ERMMedia及加拿大電子原音音樂協會錄制的雷射唱片。 梁家棟出生於香港，其音樂興趣始於二胡，及後的大提琴，年青時代，他為中樂團配樂，因而引起他對西方音樂及作曲的興趣。一九八九年至一九九二年其間，他跟隨多倫多大學陳嘉年教授學習作曲。之後他有機會在著名樂團如Arraymusic、指揮聯會、Esprit樂團、國際藝術中心、雷灣交響樂團及新聲音藝術探險會等繼續學習深造。其他演奏過他的作品的樂團包括溫哥華中華樂團、維也納薩克管四重奏、紐賓士域省的Motion樂團、多倫多約克交響樂團及里賈納交響樂團等。他亦曾在香港青少年國樂團、多倫多中樂團 、溫哥華中華樂團及約克大學中樂團的演出中作指揮。他是多倫多中樂團駐團作曲家及點心絲竹樂團藝術總監。 MAJOR WORKS 主要作品 Back View All
