TANG Man-ngai 鄧文藝 Tang Man-ngai studied composition and electronic music with Law Wing-fai and Clarence Mak at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and graduated in 1998. Tang was then awarded the Composers and Authors Society Scholarship for Overseas Studies at the University of Melbourne. Tang received a Master of Music from the University of Melbourne in 2001. Tang has written solo, chamber, vocal, electronic, multi-media and orchestral works. His compositions have been performed in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Australia and Switzerland. SCHOOLS PERFORMING ARTS IN PRACTICE SCHEME “New Energy of Wind and String” A Music Composition Animateur Scheme 2015/16 Presented by LCSD, in cooperation with Hong Kong Composers' Guild Highlight and Objective A school-year-long music composition training project. For primary and secondary schools with students who have basic music knowledge as well as interested in music composition. Aims to engage the teachers, students and the whole school in the unique art form of music composition, develop the ability of music creativity, and communicate and share with others through music. Project activities include lecture demonstration, music appreciation concert, workshops, in-school concert and finale concert. Students’ creative pieces will be performed at in-school concerts as well as having a chance to be selected to perform at a public performing venue. Content Although music composition is a huge undergoing that requires years of training and experience, this requirement does not necessarily prevent new learners to achieve meaningful results within a shorter period of time. We will encourage students to discover their hidden talent by focusing firstly on sound design, rather than complicated topics like harmony and counterpoint. With the project theme “New Energy of Wind and String”, students will explore various kinds of creative sounds on voices, instruments, percussion and everyday objects, and will arrange these sounds in an organized manner in musical contexts. This will naturally lead to the studies of rhythm, notation, pitch organisation and form. Having mastered these basic skills, students will be guided to write creative types of music, for example, emphasizing on irregular phrasing, surprising melodies, dissonance chords, arrhythmic patterns, extended instrumental techniques, etc., with the ultimate aim to express their individuality through instrumental music. Each student will compose his/her own compositions.

WONG Hung-pok 黃鴻博 Hung-pok is a Hong Kong-born composer who has received multifaceted music training including choral, Chinese and Western percussion, cello, and composition since a young age. With such a diverse background, his compositional interests span from serious and popular music. Wong’s research focuses on the representation of extramusical elements in actual music and the derivation of musical concepts into reality. Over the years, Wong has actively participated in the music education industry while continuing to compose. In 2021, he was awarded full assistantship and employment by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the United States to pursue a Master of Music degree in string pedagogy. During his time in the U.S., he also immersed himself in music composition, leading to his pursuit of another Master of Music degree at his alma mater, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in music. Wong served as the principal cellist during his school days in the U.S. Upon returning to Hong Kong, he remains an active section cellist and percussionist in various Western and Chinese orchestras. He is also a holder of the Licentiate Diploma in cello performance (LTCL) from Trinity College London with distinctions. TAM Ka-shu Kenneth 譚家樹 Tam Ka-shu (Kenneth), based in Hong Kong, draws most of his musical inspiration from the daily auditory experience in his home city. His music is characterized by its complex timbre and its peculiar linearity. Tam’s works have been performed and have received radio broadcast all over the world, including the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Greece, Mexico, Croatia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China, New Zealand, Turkey and Korea. His works have also been featured in various international events such as the UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers, the International Computer Music Conference, the Asian Composers League Conference, MUSLab Electroacoustic Music International Exhibition and the others. His works cover a wide range of genres, ranging from music for traditional forces to multimedia creations. He has worked with artists and ensembles such as the Arditti Quartet (UK), Ensemble Mise-En (US), the Hanatsu Miroir (France), the Hayley-Laufer Duo (US/Canada), the dissonArt Ensemble (Greece), the RTHK quartet (Hong Kong), the choreographer/dancer Mary Schnepf (USA), and more. Tam earned his PhD in Music Composition in the University at Buffalo. He completed his Bachelor in Hong Kong Baptist University and his Master in the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Anechoic Scream and Deadline Jitters were selected for the CUHK Ensemble-in-Residence 2020 - 2021 and 2019 - 2020 respectively. Apart from Western music, Leung has forayed into composing Chinese music. In 2020, his Night Thoughts premiered on the 5G live broadcasting concert ‘Music from the Heart’. It was followed by Pureness and Finding the Light , which were selected for the ‘HKCO Net Festival – With New Tunes, We Connect’. Leung is now majoring in violin under the tutelage of Goh Ching. YU Tsz-long 余梓朗 Yu Tsz Long, a Year 3 student is pursuing his Bachelor of Music degree at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts(HKAPA), major in Music Composition & Electronic Music under the guidance of Ms. Poly Ng. Yu’s works have been premiered and broadcasted in different places like Radio Television Hong Kong Radio 4, Hong Kong Museum of Arts, WSU Electroacoustic Mini Festival etc, by different ensemble and artist as Wind Kamerata, Cong Quartet, Chiyauyan in Hong Kong; Dr. Sarah Miller(Trombonist) in USA. CHOW Lora 周曉晴 Award-winning composer and coloratura soprano Lora Chow is celebrated for her cross-cultural musical innovation. Born in Hong Kong, she graduated magna cum laude from Yale University with a double major in Music and Economics, subsequently refining her craft under Hollywood composers Christopher Young, Patrick Kirst, and Lawrence Shragge. Chow’s pioneering compositions – spanning orchestral, chamber, vocal, and film genres have lyrical melodies in a unique voice. Her works have been premiered by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (Exsultate, Jubilate , 2018; Sympathy, 2019; Awakening for Soprano/Piano/Harp and Orchestra , 2024; Sleepless Moon Medley , 2025), Orchestra della Toscana (film score The Notting Hill Finale ), Sofia Sinfonietta , and Budapest Scoring Orchestra . Universal Edition publishes her scores, while Prima Classic releases her piano recordings. Her major works include the musical Dr. Clown , the East-West opera Sleepless Moon , Cantonese opera Ambush from All Sides , and piano albums Reveries on Ivories and Pursuits from the Roots . Her accolades include the Chigiana Film Scoring Award for Best Storytelling (2024), CASH Golden Sail Award Top 5 Best Young Composer , Cole Porter Fellowship in Music and Theater , Anita Hewitt-Jones Composition Prize , and Louis Sudler Creative and Performing Arts Award . Chow was the former Associate Music Director at Shanghai Disney . She appears as Soprano Fellow with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra . Her operatic roles have included Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro ) and Isabella (L ’Italiana in Algeri ). She toured across continents with Yale Schola Cantorum under Maestro Masaaki Suzuki and Simon Carrington.
