  • Transcending Music Legacy | HKCG 香港作曲家聯會

    Transcending Music Legacy Hong Kong Composers’ Guild (HKCG) is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year. To mark this special occasion and to share our music creativity and musical ideas of the past four decades to the public, HKCG is proud to present the Transcending Music Legacy. Original compositions selected by HKCG will be showcased in the following concerts: ​ 1. Concert with Nova Ensemble 2. Concert with Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble; and 3. Concert with The Hong Kong Children’s Choir ​ A total of 26 contemporary music will be featured in this festival, with 3 commissioned pieces composed by local composers Stephen Yip, Chan Ming Chi and Chan Kai Young. ​ A press conference for the event will be held on Monday, 25 September 2023 at the Sheung Wan Civic Center(7/F, Sheung Wan Municipal Services Building, 345 Queen’s Road Central, Hong Kong).     LAM Shun 林迅 LAM Shun, a member of Hong Kong Composers’ Guild and Vice-President of the Chinese Woman Composers’ Association is a member of the International Alliance for Women in Music , graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She studied composition, western orchestration and piano with Mr. Law Wing-fai, Dr. Chan Wing-wah and Miss Eleanor Wong respectively. Her works including both Chinese and western Chamber instrumentations’ work, Orchestral, dance music, Opera, hymns, songs and musical for children, piano works including Solo, duo & Piano concerto and also works for Konghou etc. Her compositions had been performed by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, the Japan’s Ensemble Kochi, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Chinese Virtuosi(HK), Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, China National Symphony Orchestra, Guangdong National Orchestra, Evergreen Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, Dun Huang Chinese Ensemble(Shanghai), Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong. Her compositions had been presented in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Taiwan, Italy and Paris respectively.     YEUNG Hoi-ching Alice 楊凱晴 Alice Yeung was born and raised in Hong Kong. She is an active composer and instrumentalist who is enthusiastic about exploring new definitions of music from human nature and philosophy. Yeung is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Music Degree (specializing in Composition and Electronic Music) at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, under the supervision of Prof. Clarence Mak, Ms. Poly Ng, and Dr. Pui-shan Cheung. Her works have been commissioned and performed by Hong Kong Composers’ Guild, Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble, Ictus Ensemble, Ligeti Quartet, Takuya Otaki, Ross Aftel, among others. Yeung’s works range from instrumental solo pieces to orchestral music, world, and inter disciplinary music. She was chosen as the participant of The International Young Composers Academy 2021 in Tichino, Switzerland. She was the representative student to participate in the music exchange activities at Seoul National University (2018), also a composer and violist in “SPARK: The Science and Art of Creativity Festival” organized by the British Council. Yeung has received scholarships to attend activities such as international conferences and short study courses with artists in Mainland China and overseas, such as Takefu International Music Festival 2018 & 2019, Yeoncheon DMZ International Music Festival 2013 & 2018. She has received important benefits for her artistic development from the tutelages of Chinary Ung, Toshio Hosokawa, Samson Young, Nishioka Tatsuhiko, and among other composers, via international workshops, academies, and masterclasses.   • BOZNOS James 龐樂思 | Hong Kong Composers' Guild

    BOZNOS James 龐樂思 A versatile musician, James Boznos (1969, Chicago) has been the Principal Timpanist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) since 2000. James has been a soloist with the HK Phil on three occasions, having performed both of the William Kraft Timpani Concertos as well as his own composition Concerto for Timpani, Roto-Toms and Orchestra. In 2019, the China Philharmonic and Guangzhou Symphony premiered Concerto no. 2, Pavilions, for extended timpani, orchestra and mp3, with the composer as soloist. He has been a frequent guest principal with the Taiwan Philharmonic, Singapore Symphony, Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa and the Seoul Philharmonic. He teaches at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the University of Hong Kong. Prior to joining the HK Phil, James worked regularly with the Chicago Symphony and the leading new music groups of Boston and Chicago. In those years, some highlights include performing Iannis Xenakis' Psappha for solo percussion in the ancient amphitheatre in Delphi, Greece, and playing Derive I and II at the Berlin Staatsoper for Pierre Boulez's 75th birthday, with Boulez himself conducting. With his ensemble KLANG, he conducted over 60 contemporary works including the US and Asia premiere of Donnerstags Gruss by Stockhausen. He has also conducted the Taiwan Philharmonic, HK Phil and the Chicago Chamber Orchestra. As a composer, James Boznos uses the pen name OZNO. He has written music for orchestra, chamber, solo, vocal, electronic genres as well as for the theatre. Recent premieres have included: Cantata no.1, Anesti, for 6 instruments, 6 voices and synthetic orchestra, Cantata no. 2, Nevu’ah, for 6-part chorus, 19 instrumentalists and tape, Cantata no. 3, Gabriel, for soloists, choir, orchestra and mp3, with the Hong Kong Bach Choir.
