  • Transcending Music Legacy | HKCG 香港作曲家聯會

    Transcending Music Legacy Hong Kong Composers’ Guild (HKCG) is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year. To mark this special occasion and to share our music creativity and musical ideas of the past four decades to the public, HKCG is proud to present the Transcending Music Legacy. Original compositions selected by HKCG will be showcased in the following concerts: ​ 1. Concert with Nova Ensemble 2. Concert with Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble; and 3. Join Us DR. DOMING LAM 1926 - 2023 Dr. Doming Lam, Honorary Chairman of Hong Kong Composers’ Guild and world renowned composer, passed away on 11 January 2023 at the age of 96. Dr. Doming Lam left us a large treasure of contemporary music, including ‘Autumn Execution’ and ‘The Insect World’. Hong Kong Composers’ Guild pays deepest condolences to our maestro’s family.     CALL FOR SCORES - NEW GENERATION 2024 Organised by Hong Kong Composers’ Guild Limited, in association with Radio Television Hong Kong Radio 4. Sponsored by the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Limited. ​ First held in 1989, the New Generation Concert aims at encouraging music creativity among young composers in Hong Kong by providing a platform for performance and exchange of musical ideas. Selected compositions for New Generation 2024 will be held on 6 June 2024 (Thursday) at RTHK Studio One and recorded by RTHK Radio 4 to be broadcast later. The concert will be performed by the MAEBLES Percussion. ​ Submission Details: This Call for Scores is open to Hong Kong residents born on or after 6th June 1994. Eligible composers can only submit one work in PDF file. No other medium of the score, such as recording, is accepted. The duration of each work should be within 5 minutes. An accurate duration of the work must be stated on the score. The work should be written for percussion ensemble (4 percussionists). Details of which are as follows: 5-octave marimba, 3-octave vibraphone (F3-F6), 2.5-octave glockenspiel, timpani x 2 (26' & 29'), bass drum, tom-toms x 4, tam-tam, suspended cymbals x 2 (16' & 18'), snare drum, a set of 5 woodblocks, tambourine, maracas, claves, shakers, triangle, finger cymbals, cabasa, cowbell, rainstick, guiro, sleighbells, castanets, ratchet, vibraslap, windchimes If conducting is required, the composer should conduct the work himself/herself. The entire score (including notation, symbols, necessary instructions to performers, and duration) must be typed and in black-and-white only. Hand-written score will not be accepted. Only the title and instrumentation of the composition in both English and Chinese can be shown on the title page. Name and the institution of composer cannot appear anywhere on the score. Violators will be disqualified. All submissions must include a score in PDF file, a copy of Hong Kong ID and a completed application form in PDF file. They should be sent via email to grace@hkcg.org on or before 5pm, 5th April 2024 (Friday). Late applications will not be considered. Application fees: Waived for all members* of the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild Limited (HKCG). HK$200 for composers who are not members of HKCG. Payment must be deposited into the Guild’s HSBC account at 636-474546-838. Please send the deposit slip via email to grace@hkcg.org . Application without the slip will be disqualified. * Membership must be confirmed at the time of submission. New application or application in process will not be considered as member. Selection Arrangement: ​ A jury panel, appointed by the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild Limited, will select works on grounds of artistic merit and performance practicality. The decision of the jury panel is final. Results will be announced in mid April 2024 through the HKCG website (www.hkcg.org ). Shortlisted composers will be notified by email. Each shortlisted composer must:  provide full score and parts, a short programme note, a biography (maximum 200 words each) in English and Chinese, and a recent photo of high-resolution on or before 12pm, 17th April 2024 (Wednesday); attend rehearsals and the New Generation Concert 2024. Composers who fail to attend the concert will be disqualified. Award: ​ There are three cash awards for the most outstanding compositions: 1st place HK$6,000; 2nd place HK$4,000; 3rd place HK$2,000.     LAM Chi-ying Gigi 林芝瑛 Lam Chi Ying Gigi graduated a Bachelor of Education (Honors) from Hong Kong Institute of Education(HKIEd). She studied organ under the guidance of Mr. David Paul Werner, during her studies , she has awarded the AIA Foundation and Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships. Since 2004, she has organized and directed different musical productions, theatre play and performances, including Hong Kong International School (HKIS) , Yao Yuen Chinese Music Association, Joint School Drama Production , Anglican little singers etc. She is also the lyricist and director of the 40thAnniversary musical production of St. Catharine’s’ Secondary School for girsl and 15thanniversary musical production of HKIEd. She has worked as a columnist in English Street of The Hong Kong Economic Times. She is currently working as research assistant in HKIEd , Vice-president of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholars’ Alumni Association, music tutor of the Hong Kong Down’s Syndrome Association and Choir conductor. She is also the preparatory member of Hong Kong Composers’ Guild and Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Limited. 林芝瑛畢業於香港教育學院,主修中學音樂教育,在學期間獲頒香港賽馬會獎學金及AIA foundation 獎學金,全額支助其學士學位課程。畢業後獲教院提供獎學金,留校攻讀文化創意及藝術學系碩士課程。林氏隨David Paul Werner先生學生管風琴,現為Church of Nations及伯大尼小教堂之風琴師和伴奏。 林氏曾為香港經濟日報英語街文化專欄作家,並自2004年起,她與多個本地及海外團體合作,籌辦及導演參與各個音樂會,劇場製作及活動,合作機構包括香港國際學校(HKIS),力行劇社,樂樂國樂團,聯校戲劇製作,晶晶兒童教育集團,聖公會東九龍教區兒童合唱團等, 亦為聖傑靈女子中學四十週年校慶音樂劇《路得》及香港教育學院十五週年原創校慶音樂劇擔任填詞及導演工作。林氏現為教院研究助理,香港賽馬會獎學金基金同學會有限公司副主席, 香港唐氏綜合症協會音樂導師及多個合唱團指揮,林氏亦為香港作曲家聯會(Hong Kong Composers ‘Guild)預備會員及香港作曲家及作詞家協會(CASH)會員。 MAJOR WORKS 主要作品 Back

    WONG Yat-wai Joseph 黃逸偉 Joseph Wong studied music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of York, where he obtained his MMus and PhD respectively. His composition teachers include Dr. Thomas Simaku and Prof. Victor Chan. He also studied voice with Dr. Derek Anthony and sheng (Chinese mouth organ) with Mr. Cheng Tak-wai. As a composer of both acoustic and electro-acoustic music, Wong’s major works have been performed in Hong Kong, United Kingdom, Israel and South Korea. His recent performances include Via Dolorosa for solo violin (The 30th Asian Composers League Music Festival 2012, Isreal), Roll-up-banner for violin and cello with visual projection (SOUND-IMAGination: Hong Kong Snapshots, 2012), and the audio-visual piece In Our Fast-Changing City (Hong Kong Musicarama 2012). In 2009, his Duo for percussion was awarded the Nicola LeFanu Composition Prize by the University of York, United Kingdom. Besides composing, Wong has for many years been working as music editor, educator, arranger and sound editor. He has also published over 100 articles on music technology in printed media and online.   • TSANG Shun-han 曾淳頎 | Hong Kong Composers' Guild

    TSANG Shun-han 曾淳頎 TSANG Shun-han, Hanson holds a Master of Arts in Music and Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Music from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Education University of Hong Kong respectively. He studied percussion and timpani under the tutelage of Mr. LUK Kin-bun and Mr. James BOZNOS, studied flute under the tutelage of Mr. Matthew WU. He is also a member of Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Composers Guild. During his studies in EdUHK, Tsang was awarded the Year Prize of Academic Excellence, Champion of Artistic Composition Award and Performance Award as well as Outstanding Contribution Award. He was one of the awardees of HKIEd Student Representation in Oversea Activities Award and the award scheme enabled him to participate in various international music events, including the International Band Festival (WASBE), Conference of the Asia and Pacific Band Directors Association (APBDA), International Symposium of Music Education, International Handbell Symposium, International Orff Music Camp, International Dalcroze and Music Therapy Workshop. Tsang is currently the Assistant Music Officer in the Music Office of LCSD and is responsible for western percussion training as well as Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band and Music Office Youth Brass Band.     LAM Doming (Honorary President) 林樂培(名譽主席) DOMING LAM, Winner of two Gold Seal Awards for the Best Serious Music. Born in Macau in 1926. Studied music in Canada and Unite States; is the pioneer to lead Hong Kong into the music circles of the world. During 1964-1994 he worked in Hong Kong and Macau, contributed equally well in composing, conducting, teaching, producing music programmers for radio and television. Maestro Lam’s music has been performed over 40 cities around the world. The 2001 New Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians has a detailed biography on Maestro Lam.
