Congratulations to our member Mr. Yu Tsz-long, for his work ‘Please Don’t Open’ being chosen as one of the Recommended Works by Composers Under-30 category at the 67th International Rostrum of Composers (IRC)! The event was held in Belgrade, Serbia, from October 12-15, 2021. With our council member - Mr. Lau Wing-fung, Galison as our delegate to attend the event on behalf of the Guild and RTHK, we presented four selected pieces written by Hong Kong composers, including Yu Tsz-long’s ‘Please Don’t Open’, Luk Wai-chun’s ‘Blue Pole’, Angus Lee’s ‘triumvirate’ and Anthony Cheng’s ‘Dark Side of the City: II – Trapped’.

Congratulations to our treasurer Dr. Austin Yip on receiving the Award for Young Artist (Music) at the 15th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards Presentation Ceremony on 30 May 2021. This honour acknowledges Dr. Yip’s contributions in bringing innovative and diverse repertoire to international music scenes. With his rising reputation and performance opportunities both in Hong Kong and abroad, Yip has cultivated a global vision of music and his musical network which bring immense contribution to the development of music in Hong Kong. Significant contributions of Dr. Yip refer to his album Eurydice: Ballet de la Nuit which was released in 2019, and an artist residency at MacDowell Colony.

The image shows a man raises his hand towards the sky. In my piece, I am thinking about this prospective. 2) Please share your perception of “Hong Kong”. How did you convey this perception in your work? The high rise building design of Hong Kong is spectacular and when you are standing on the road and trying to look up towards the roof of those high rise buildings, it is like you are looking towards the end of the sky. I try to put an impression on my piece. 3) All visual elements of this concert, which served as the initial inspiration for the composers, will be projected on screen during the performance. What is the difference between composing with and without a specified visual image? With a specified image, the inspiration of the music immediately appears after seeing the image. And it would take more times to search for the initial musical idea if there is no specified image. II.
