TSANG Yip-fat Richard (Founding Chairman) 曾葉發(創會主席) Richard Tsang has been for many years the Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong Composers' Guild, Vice-Chairman of the Asian Composers’ League (ACL) and subsequently served as President of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) from 2002-2008, the first non-European to hold this position since the society’s establishment in 1923. He has been active as a promoter of contemporary music and has organized in the past three decades many international exchange events and festivals in this field. As a composer, Tsang's works have been commissioned and/or performed by many local and international groups including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Stockholm Wind Symphony Orchestra, Japan Folklore Foundation, Taiwan Municipal Chinese Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Orion Ensemble of Switzerland, Ensemble Antipodes, the Hong Kong Ballet, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, etc. Tsang has been the founding Music Director of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and has guest conducted many local and overseas orchestras including the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, etc. in premieres of his own compositions. He is also a veteran broadcaster and has worked with Radio Television Hong Kong since 1979 in various capacities as producer, channel head and Head of English Programme Services. LAW Wing-fai 羅永暉 Law Wing-fai (Solo Theatre) is a leading composer in Hong Kong, and one of the few to have crossed over the boundary between commercial music and the arts. He is currently a Composer-in-Residence at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and Artistic Director of Wuji Ensemble. Law graduated from the University of California with a Master’s degree in Music (Composition and Electronic Music). He worked closely with Hong Kong’s New Wave directors in films during the 1980’s, having scored for more than 20 films including the award-winning Boat People, Dream Lovers and A Simple Life. He was the founding Head of Composition of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, a position which he subsequently held for many years. During the 1990’s, he was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University where he gave lectures and wrote music. On returning to Hong Kong, he found a new angle in music composition, which resulted in many important works using Chinese-Western mixed instrumentation, the most representative of which are When Mountains Roar and Linli. He also founded Wuji Ensemble, a group that is known for its unique character. In May 2008, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra presented a critically acclaimed concert featuring Law’s works. With a diverse oeuvre spanning serious and commercial music, Law has written for pop music, commercials, drama, opera and in particular, for over a dozen dance dramas such as Song of the Good Earth and Rouge. His long list of accolades include the Irino Memorial Award presented at the Asian Composers’ League, the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Original Score, “Composer of the Year” by the Hong Kong Artists’ Guild, and being selected as one of the “Twentieth Century Masterpieces by Chinese Composers” by the Chinese Culture Promotion Society in Beijing. Law’s score for the drama production The Peach Blossom Fan was awarded “Best Original Music” by the Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies. LEE Pui-shan Sandy 李佩珊 Sandy was born in Hong Kong. She is active in music composition, arrangements and creative music education. After graduating from Hong Kong Baptist University and Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, she established her own studio “Sandy’s Musical” which produced children creative shows at Shenzhen. As a music educator, she leads her students participate in Schools Creative Music Showcase, Schools Speech Choir Showcase and Composition Workshops run by EDB and LCSD. Sandy was cooperating with Hong Kong Education University. Her handbell composition “Drunk Horse in the Moon” was performed by EdUHK Handbell Ensemble at the 18th International Handbell Symposium in Cairns 2018. Studio theatre work “World of Flowers” was performed the following year at Ko Shan Theatre. Her trilingual choral work “Visiting the Ancient Plain of Leyou” was premiered by Sacred Heart Canossian College in 2019. LIN Livia 凌崎偵 Recipient of the 2011 St Botolph Club Foundation Emerging Artist Award, Livia Lin recently received an Honorable Mention in the 2011 International Music Prize for her work Ju, written for Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) principal oboist Jennifer Slowik. In 2006, with just one year of composition experience under her belt, her woodwind trio received an Honorable Mention in the MTNA Young Artist Composition Competition. Her music has since then been receiving critical acclaims in festivals including the Festival of Women in Arts in New York and the Asian Music Festival in Tokyo. A talented pianist since a young age, she appeared in the commercially released educational video of world-renowned pianist Liu Shih Kun at just age eight. After attaining LRSM in Piano Performance in 2001, Lin went on to study Music Production & Engineering and Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music in Boston, earning a B.Mus. magna cum laude. She also holds a M.A. in Composition from Tufts University. For years, Lin has been an active audio engineer. While in Boston, she had participated in production projects of BMOP, Bang On A Can bassist Robert Black, to name a few. LAI Sheung-ping 黎尚冰 Dr. Sheung-Ping Lai is an Assistant Professor at the CCA Department, HKIED where she teaches music composition, music theory, composition pedagogy, contemporary music, and jazz study. Dr. Lai is an active composer. Her music covers a wide variety of genres and styles, and her compositions are frequently performed in public, including Western and Chinese instrumental music, electronic music, theatrical music, art songs, pop songs, choral jazz and instrumental jazz, presenting a unique synthesis of the East and the West. Her research interests include music composition, music theory, composition pedagogy, contemporary music, jazz, and cross-cultural studies of Chinese and Western music. She is the Secretary (Administration) of Hong Kong Composers’ Guild where she coordinates the annual New Generation Concert for young composers. LAM Kwan-fai 林鈞暉 林鈞暉,一位於國際舞台上屢獲獎項的作曲家,作品以多元化見稱,由學術到商業、古典到前衛,遍及電影、戲劇、舞蹈,跨媒體等。曾留學美國加洲藝術學院(又名迪士尼學校),畢業後獲藝術家簽證,留美工作。在美期間曾參與多個何荷里活電影的大型製作,亦為多個著名劇團擔任作曲家一職。個人獎項包括國際作曲家比賽「許常惠創作獎」及「亞洲作曲家同盟的青年作曲家獎」;其參與作品曾提名「國際艾美獎最佳紀錄長片」、「動畫奧斯卡 Annie Award」最佳學生作品、榮獲「蒙地雷國際電影節」最佳劇情短片,「IndieProducers’ Award 2009」最佳動畫等。 先後畢業於香港演藝學院及美國加州藝術學院作曲系。在學其間多次獲獎,包括零六於台灣主辦的國際作曲家比賽「許常惠創作獎」,零七年「亞洲作曲家同盟的青年作曲家獎」。以及零九年獲香港賽馬會全額獎學金赴美完成其碩士課程。林氏活躍於參與不同媒體音樂製作,如電影、戲劇及舞蹈。其參與配樂的電影作品曾於不同的國際電影節中參展並獲獎,包括 Across Land Across Sea 提名「第四十一屆國際艾美獎」最佳紀錄長片,The Monk 榮獲「第三屆鮮浪潮國際電影節」最佳短片,Little By Little 榮獲「蒙地雷國際電影節」最佳劇情短片, The Lost Generation 「IndieProducers’ Award 2009」最佳動畫。 劇場方面,林氏於零七至零八年,出任由康樂及文化事務署與國際演藝評論家協會(香港分會)所協辦的「《舒寫戲舞》音樂劇表演/評論培訓計劃」的音樂總監一職,同時付責作曲及作詞的工作。在加州藝術學院畢業後,同時亦於艾美獎提名作曲家 Gil Talmi 的電影配樂工作室,以自由身身份參與不同的大型製作。其他合作劇團包括, Stella Alder Acting Studio (New York), Boston Court Theater (Pasadena), Early Morning Opera (LA)。一三年夏天,林氏獲加州聖地牙哥著名劇院 The Old Globe Theater 邀請,參與創作其重點劇目 Double Indemnity。創作團隊包括殿堂級設計師,東尼獎得主 Christopher Barreca, 耶魯大學設計系主任 Stephen Strawbridge 等。 MAJOR WORKS 主要作品 Back

MUSIC COMPOSITION TRAINING PROGRAMME WITH CULTURAL EXPLORATION 香港作曲家聯會獲優質教育基金資助,於2014至2016年為本港中小學學生提供一個社區文化音樂創作培訓計劃,旨在讓中小學生在課餘之時,學習音樂創作的樂趣。每間學校將獲派一名作曲家駐校教授,及專業樂師視奏、排練及演奏學生作品,與音樂教師共同協作,締結美好音樂學習環境。 本計劃鼓勵學生探索身處社區的獨特元素,進行實地考察,從生活中吸取創作泉源,並把經驗轉化成具創意的音樂創作。學生將在生活的社區內尋找靈感,創作自己的作品,然後由專業演奏家在校內或公開音樂會中演出,展示個人成果。此外,計劃將製作一份教師手冊,為音樂老師提供創作音樂的參考。每位參與老師需在計劃結束後各自設計一節簡報會,為區內音樂老師介紹計劃內容和分享參與心得。 詳情請瀏覽以下網址:http://hkcgqef.wixsite.com/hkcg-qef-project

NG Hau-yee Poly 伍巧怡 NG Hau Yee, Poly was born in Hong Kong. She graduated with distinction from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts where she studied composition with Law Wing Fai and she earned a Professional Diploma in Electronic Music with Clarence Mak. Miss Ng awarded the Lee Hysan Foundation Fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council in 1995 and The Boston Conservatory Music Division Scholarship in 1996 where she was awarded a Master Degree majoring in composition studying with Dr. John Clement Adams at The Boston Conservatory. She won the composition scholarship given by the Composers’ and Authors’ Society of Hong Kong (CASH) in 1993. She was also the prize winner of the New Generation Young Composers’ Award in 1992 and 1993. Besides that, she was also won the first prize in The Asian Composers’ League(ACL) Young Composers’ Award in 1993 in Korea. Miss Ng is now teaching composition at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. She is the member of the LSCD Art Form Panel (Community) in 2010-2012 and also the audition member for the Open Stage Pilot Scheme in 2012. 出生於香港的伍巧怡畢業於香港演藝學院深造文憑課程,主修作曲,師從羅永暉先生。又於翌年完成專業文憑課程,隨麥偉鑄先生習電子音樂課程。伍是一九九二及一九九三年【新一代青年作曲家】獎得主,又於一九九三年獲得香港作曲家及作詞家協會之獎學金。更於同年代表香港前往韓國參加亞洲音樂節青年作曲家比賽,並獲得冠軍。她亦獲得亞洲文化協會所頒贈之獎學金及波士頓藝術學院獎學金於該校隨約翰、克雷孟特、亞當斯博士進修作曲,並於一九九七年五月取得碩士學位。 除作曲外,伍氏更熱衷於教學工作,現為香港演藝學院作曲系導師,學生於本地及海外多個國際作曲比賽中嬴取冠軍。於2010﹣2012年其間為康樂及文化事務署社區小組委員及「開放舞台」試驗計劃評審委員。 MAJOR WORKS 主要作品 Back

As a performer and an improvisor, Dr. Manabe has appeared in the United States, France, England, Germany, Singapore, South Korea and Japan. While having given premiers of the works written by established composers such as Roger Reynolds and James Tenney, she collaborates with composers of the next generations including Nicholas Deyoe, Eric Wubbles, Tomohiro Moriyama, Hibiki Mukai among others. Her recordings have been introduced widely in Europe at several music festivals and schools. Since she moved back to Japan in 2008, she has appeared regularly at the contemporary music concerts of JSCM and JFC as well as of Tokyo-based composer collective, NEXT. In 2018 Composers’ group CUE had their concert featuring Dr. Manabe. In 2006 she won the First Prize at the “Kyogaku VII” (The 7th Contemporary Music Performance Competition founded by Japan Society for Contemporary Music) as the first flute solo winner in their history. He made his solo debut with the Honolulu Symphony after winning the Honolulu Symphony Concerto Competition. He has performed in the violin sections of the Hawaii Symphony and the Cleveland Orchestra, among others. He joined the Cleveland Orchestra on tours to New York City, Chicago, Bloomington, Iowa City, Miami, and major cities in Europe, including Paris, Milan, Brussels, Luxembourg, Cologne, Munich, and Vienna. Yim has performed chamber music with members of the Juilliard, Emerson, St. Lawrence, Pacifica, and Ying Quartets, and with musicians from the Cleveland Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. He has also performed chamber music in festivals in Canada (Banff and Toronto Summer Music Festival), China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Iceland, and throughout the United States, including a recent performance in Carnegie Hall with members of the Emerson Quartet. As Guest Music Director of the Collegium Musicum Hong Kong, he collaborated with world-renowned pipa virtuoso Wu Man and performed concerts at the Hong Kong City Hall as violinist and conductor. He has performed world premieres at festivals in the United States and Europe, and he recently curated a series of concerts related to the Silk Road at the Hong Kong Museum of History for which he commissioned and premiered new works for solo violin by Michael-Thomas Foumai (Honolulu), Austin Yip (Hong Kong), and Yao Chen (Beijing). He has performed with the Contemporary Chamber Players (New York) and the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble. Yim has taught violin and chamber music at Stony Brook University, the Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory Department, the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp, the Flatirons Chamber Music Festival, and the Rushmore Music Festival. He has taught masterclasses and workshops in the United States, Denmark, Iceland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China. He is a graduate with honours of the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) where he was a student of David Updegraff and William Preucil and was awarded the First Prize at the Institute’s Darius Milhaud Performance Prize Competition for two consecutive years. At CIM, he studied chamber music with the Cavani Quartet and Peter Salaff of the Cleveland Quartet. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Stony Brook University where he studied violin with Philip Setzer, Jennifer Frautschi, and Hagai Shaham, and chamber music with the Emerson Quartet. The Wind Rises, the Kites Dance 《風起箏舞》 Chung King-yat 鍾敬逸 Chung King-yat is currently studying in the fourth year of the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Creative Arts and Culture and Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Music) (Five-year Full-time) (co-terminal double degree) at the Education University of Hong Kong. He was awarded the “Parsons Music Scholarship" in 2021. Chung studied the saxophone under the guidance of Mr. Martin Choy Kwok-tin, and also learned handbells and handbell conducting from Ms. Wong Wai-ching, Ms. Leung Lai-shee, and Ms. Yeung Tsz-ting. Chung continued to study ensemble music through performance, conducting, and composition, and achieved distinction in the AMusTCL from Trinity College London in recent years. After entering the Education University of Hong Kong, Chung joined many ensembles in EdUHK, and was awarded the 23-24 CASH Composition Award of the EdUHK department of Cultural and Creative Arts. This work is inspired by Wu Guanzhong’s Spring Breeze . Since wind cannot be directly depicted on canvas, Wu Guanzhong used a sky full of kites to evoke the fleeting, whimsical presence of the spring breeze. Similarly, this composition attempts to capture the traces of wind through the movement of kites — sometimes strong, sometimes gentle, ever-changing. The piece extensively employs the wholetone scale and parallel fourths to enhance its sense of instability and weightlessness. Most sections focus on the melodic contour of individual instruments, creating imagery of kites in motion. Previous Next
