MUSICAL CONVERGENCE 2019 "Musical Convergence" is a concert jointly presented by Hong Kong Composers’ Guild, Chung Chi College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and RTHK Radio 4. It is a musical collaboration of Music Joint Association (a Chinese music ensemble) mixing with a saxophone and a flute. In this concert we shall enjoy the music works of Hong Kong Composers’ Guild members as well as compositions from the Music Department of Chung Chi College. Over the years, the group has performed contemporary classical music as well as traditional Chinese and Taiwanese music in countless concerts in Taiwan, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. CFMW has gained the reputation of being one of the foremost sizhu (Chinese chamber music) ensembles in the world. The idea behind all of CFMW’s musical and cultural activities is the advancement of traditional Taiwanese music, both in and out of the confines of Taiwan. CFMW adheres to the foundation of traditional Taiwanese music and perfects its artistic achievement with contemporary extensions. The Council of Cultural Affairs of Taiwan has supported and endorsed the group’s activities for years, and has granted it numerous awards for its excellence. Chai Found Music Workshop will keep the vision of maintaining the tradition, but at the same time providing a high-quality cultural integration by injecting contemporary elements in its professional performances. WONG Ching-yin 黃正彥 Wong is currently studying music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in the second year, majoring in pipe organ under Dr. Anne Lam. Since secondary school, he engaged in composing and arranging, in particular Chinese orchestral and contemporary chamber works. Wong actively composes for different settings. In 2015 and 2016, Wong’s works Entanglements and Fanfare were selected respectively for the Music from the Heart concerts of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. In March 2016, his Chinese orchestral miniature …Standing at the far end of street, where the candlelight is the dimmest was discussed in the orchestral workshop at the Chinese Music Without Bounds - International Composers' Summit . In the recent years at the university, his works Asian Colors for Erhu Quartet and Vibes (4 Moments for Chamber Group) are premiered the Bauhinia Concert, a student composers’ showcase and were selected in both 2016 and 2017. Wong also performs on Chinese musical instruments. He studied erhu under guidance of Mr. Cheung Wai-fung. He was featured as soloists in multiple concerts, and is currently the concertmaster of the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra. He has followed the orchestra to tours in Taiwan, Shenyang and Shanghai. In the university, he is member of the Chinese music ensemble and has toured in Tsinghua University at Beijing China, as well as University of Cambridge and University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. 現為香港中文大學音樂系學士二年級生，師承林芍彬博士主修管風琴。自中學 年代，他投入於作曲和編曲，以現代民族管弦樂隊合奏和現代室內樂為主。 黃正彥積極為不同場合作曲。作品《纏繞》和《嘹亮》曾分別於 2015 和 2016年入選香港中樂團心樂集徵曲活動。2016 年三月，作品《那人，卻在燈火闌珊處》於中樂無疆界「國際作曲家高峰會」上被香港中樂團演奏。近年於大學裡，二胡四重奏《亞洲色彩》和室內樂《給室內樂組的 4 個瞬間：氛圍》亦分別於2016 和 2017 年入選音樂系紫荊音樂會。 除作曲外，黃正彥亦演奏中國弓弦樂器，二胡曾師承張偉鋒老師，並於多場音樂會中擔任獨奏。現為香港青年中樂團樂團首席，曾隨團赴台灣、瀋陽和上海演出。大學方面，他現為音樂系中樂小組的成員，曾代表中大出訪英國劍橋大學、牛津大學和北京的清華大學。 MAJOR WORKS 主要作品 Back

View All Other Pages (246) CHEN Chi-wai 陳智偉 | Hong Kong Composers' Guild CHEN Chi-wai 陳智偉 Dr. Jason Chen graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music in 1995 with a Bachelor of Music Degree, majoring in composition and piano with a 4-year scholarship. He later furthered his musical studies at the Hong Kong Baptist University, receiving the Master of Arts (majoring in composition and electro-acoustic music) and Diploma of Education (majoring in Music) respectively in 2000 and 2002. A composer, pianist and researcher, he studied jazz piano and arranging with Prof. Kim Park, and composition under tutorship of Prof. James Mobberley and Prof. John Chen, and has written over 40 compositions including works for orchestra, chamber music, electroacoustic music and writing music for TV commercials, movie soundtracks. His works have been published by Warner music, Universal music, Sony music, Capital Artist, What’s music and EEG Records. Jason is currently the Assistant Professor in the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts at the Hong Kong Institute of Education. He is also a PhD in music technology at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University, Australia, researching on multi-media music composition. His articles have been published by the top-ranked journals such as International Journal of Music Education, Research Studies in Music Education and Music Education Research. Drawing from his Chinese heritage, Zheng's compositions are infused with distinctive cultural elements, merging traditional themes and folk materials with contemporary and innovative expressions to create a unique musical language reflective of modern China. This piece is composed for a percussion quartet, where the interaction among the four musicians not only reflects the interplay of various life forms in nature but also symbolizes the perpetual cycle of life that spring brings. This composition, while expressing the essence of spring, also serves as a reminder for people to cherish this delicate beauty and to embrace the new season with emotion and anticipation. Back LEUNG Ka-tung Tony 梁家棟 | Hong Kong Composers' Guild LEUNG Ka-tung Tony 梁家棟 Tony K.T. Leung’s compositions have been performed and broadcast in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Hong Kong, Korea, Luxembourg, Ukraine, the USA and Canada by leading contemporary music ensembles. Recordings of works by the composer include CD releases from Luxembourg Sinfonietta, ERMMedia, and Canadian Electroacoustic Community. Born in Hong Kong, Tony discovered music through his first instrument, the erhu, and later the cello. As a youth, he arranged music for a Chinese orchestra, which sparked an early interest in western music and composition. From 1989 to 1992, he studied composition privately with University of Toronto Professor Chan Ka Nin. He received further training through workshops with Arraymusic, Conductors Guild, Esprit Orchestra, National Arts Centre, Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, and New Adventures in Sound Art. Other performers of his music include Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble, Vienna Saxophone Quartet, Motion Ensemble, York Symphony Orchestra, and Regina Symphony Orchestra. As a conductor, he has directed Hong Kong Juvenile & Youth Chinese Classical Orchestra, Toronto Chinese Orchestra, Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble, and York University Chinese Music Ensemble.
