許翔威
More than 170 of Hui Cheung-wai’s compositions have been performed to date. Hui has been collaborating with many prominent musicians and orchestras. His music has been performed and broadcast in many cities of the world including showcases at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. World renowned musicians Arditti Quartet, Helen Jahren, Pierre Yves Artaud, Okko Kamu, David Atherton, Sigmund Groven, Ensemble Sortisatio, Tsung Yeh and numerous famous Chinese musicians have interpreted Hui’s works. His works have been composed for Hong Kong Arts Festival, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Taipei Chinese Orchestra, Kaohsiung Chinese Orchestra, Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong City Chamber Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Education Bureau, Radio Television Hong Kong, Manhattan Hong Kong Music Festival, World Harmonica Festival, and Shanghai World Expo.
Selected music scores by Hui have been published by Hong Kong Harmonica Association, Hong Kong Choral Society, Vocal Music Anthology and Red House Editions in Australia, among others. Hui’s works have been recorded on published CDs by Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong, HUGO Production, Stephen Chau, Hong Kong Guitar Orchestra, King’s Harmonica Quintet, etc.
Hui was a Director of Hong Kong Composers’ Guild from 1991 to 2012. He has also been the Honorary Composer-in-Residence of Hong Kong Harmonica Association, Composer-in-Residence of Hong Kong Guitar Orchestra and Chief Editor of music periodical Music Companion for a long time. He lectured part-time at Hong Kong Music Institute and CUHK for many years. With stylistic and idiomatic outputs, Hui has been repeatedly receiving commissions from instrumentalists, choirs, professional orchestras, educational institutions, music festivals, and film directors.
創作30年發表作品逾170首，許翔威八十年代起已有中西管弦樂曲獲選於海外演出；其作品曾於世界各地包括卡奈基廳及林肯中心，參展於International Rostrum of Composers、ISCM World Music Days、Manhattan Hong Kong Music Festival、世界口琴節和世界博覽會展演；演出者如Arditti Quartet、Okko Kamu、David Atherton、Helen Jahren、Pierre Yves Artaud、Michael Harvey、Sigmund Groven、Alessandra Boër, Tactus、Ensemble Sortisatio、Mueller Fross、Gilbert Imperial及無數傑出華人音樂家。
許氏屢獲香港管弦樂團、香港中樂團、香港小交響樂團、香港結他樂團、香港藝術節等委約新作，論述其創作之書籍包括《香港作曲家—三十至九十年代》、《香港音樂發展概論》、《愛與音樂同行—香港管弦樂團三十年》、《香港口琴七十年》、《二十世紀香港中樂史稿》、《中國新音樂史論》、《中國交響音樂博覽》、《中國新音樂年鑑》等。許氏樂譜曾由香港口琴協會、香港合唱團協會、童聲合唱協會、澳洲Red House Editions等出版。作品錄音選輯於雨果華人作曲家系列、周啟良「Duet」、香港中樂團「香江華采」、香港結他樂團「六弦新世界」、KHQ「Summertime」等。
