WONG Yok-yee
黃育義

Born in Swatow, China in 1924. Graduated from the Chinese Sacred Music School and remained in the same school as teacher of harmony and theory. He went to West Germany in 1960 and joined the Hamburg Musik Hochschule majoring in composition under Prof. Klussmann.  He graduated in 1965 and stayed on to study twelve-tone series. After his return to Hong Kong in 1967, he has been teaching in the Hong Kong Music Institute. His works are mostly polyphonic. He adopted pentatonic and octatonic scales and twelve-tone series. He also experiments on the mixed use of twelve-tone series and the pentatonic scale. His compositions include orchestral, chamber pieces, songs, piano music and primary school textbooks in music.


1924年生於汕頭。早年畢業於中國聖樂院，後在該院擔任樂理及和聲課程。1960年赴德國入漢堡國立音樂院作曲系，隨庫斯曼教授研習。1965年畢業，並留院研究十二列音之現代音樂。1967年回港，任教於香港音樂專科學校。其作品多用多線條之對位手法，少用大小調音階而多採五音音階、八音音階及十二列音，並嘗試將五音音階及十二列音混合使用。其作品有管弦樂曲、室樂曲、歌曲、鋼琴及小學音樂教材。
