Creative Music Contest for Composition-cum-Performing Groups
Organized by Hong Kong Composers' Guild and Vision Music Studio


Rules and Regulations
1.    Participants taking part in this contest shall aim to present music that is both innovative and appealing. The piece shall not have been publicly performed, and shall avoid using drum set and any electronic musical instrument.
 
2.    The group shall consist of 3 to 5 people. The composer(s) shall be the performing member(s) as well. All members of the group must take part in the performance.
 
3.    Duration of the piece: 5 to 7 minutes
 
4.    We encourage pieces having, not necessarily, the following qualities, for example:
i.      creative writing with beautiful melodies
ii.     diversified instrumentation, e.g., combining Western and Chinese instruments
iii.    diversified musical styles, e.g., nicely merging different musical languages or materials from different cultures
iv.    multiple languages or dialects in lyrics, if any
v.     innovative and appealing harmony
vi.    rich tone colour
vii.   multi-part texture
viii. healthy performing image
 
5.    Contest Classes
i.       Open Class - for people of any age and nationality
ii.      Youth Class - all group members must be born after 1st June 1989
 
Registration Method and Deadlines
A participating group is required to fill in the application form, pay a registration fee of HK$200 (crossed cheque payable to Hong Kong Composers' Guild Ltd.), make a clear audio and visual recording of the performance of the composition, and deliver all items to Vision Music Studio (at Room 1406, Star House, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong; Tel.: +852 23751717) by 30th April 2007. Overseas participants may send all items by post, with the registration fee on a US$30 bank draft.

Contest Procedure
Semi-final:    The Adjudicator Panel will study and select the best groups for the final competition among the submitted audio video recordings. All the selected groups will receive the written (and phone) confirmation and notification of the details of the final competition. After that, they must submit one full score of their composition by a specific date. Failing to do so is treated as a self withdrawal from the competition.
Final:             The finalists must perform their compositions on stage (as live performance) during the final contest.

        Venue for the Final:            Auditorium, Kwai Tsing Theatre, 12 Hing Ning Road

Prizes: (All prizes will be sponsored by Vision Music Studio)
i.    Open Class
First Prize:          HK$30,000 cash and a Vision Music Trophy
Second Prize:    HK$20,000 cash and a Vision Music Cup
Third Prize:         HK$10,000 cash and a Vision Music Cup
ii.   Youth Class
First Prize:          HK$15,000 cash and a Vision Music Trophy
Second Prize:    HK$10,000 cash and a Vision Music Cup
Third Prize:         HK$5,000 cash and a Vision Music Cup
