The Taipei Chamber Singers won the Grand Prize and the First Prize in the categories of chamber choir at the 2006 Béla Bartók 22nd International Choir Competition and Folklore Festival in Hungary. Ms. Chen Yun-Hung, the current conductor, won the special conductor prize as well in the competition. The Choir will be invited to participate in the 2007 Europe Grand Prix (EGP) in Arezzo, Italy.
Over the years, the Taipei Chamber Singers has gained much experience in collaborative performances with remarkable artists such as Günther Theuring, Paul Traver, Bob Chilcott, and Peter Phillips. The repertoire of the Choir ranges from the Renaissance to the present day. Its strong commitment to awareness and appreciation of Taiwanese contemporary works has solicited commissions of outstanding new works. The Taipei Chamber Singers has been heard not only at home locally but also in international choral competitions and festivals in Italy, England, France, Spain, Austria, Slovenia, Germany, America and Mainland China.
The many honours awarded to the Taipei Chamber Singers include two First Prizes in the categories of chamber choir and folklore at the 4th International Johannes Brahms Choral Competition in Germany in 2005; awards at the 42nd International Choral Competition “C.A. Seghizzi” Gorizia in Italy in 2003; at the Festival Internacional de Musica de Cantonigros in Catalunjya, Spain in 2001; at the 49th Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in North Wales, United Kingdom in 1996; at the 32nd International Chorbewerb Competition in Spittal, Austria in 1995 and at the the 42nd chorus contest of the “Guido da Arezzo”in Arezzo, Italy in 1994.
Founded in 1992, the Taipei Chamber Singers is an independent semi-professional ensemble consisting of skilled and experienced singers of diverse backgrounds. Full of energy and enthusiasm, the ensemble has overcome obstacles of limited budget and resource and dedicated to achieving the highest level of artistic excellence. The Taipei Chamber Singers has established a solid reputation as one of the best vocal ensembles in Taiwan under the direction of renowned conductors including Chen Yun-Hung, Dr. Weng Ghia-Fen, and Dr. Serene Liang.
The Taipei Chamber Singers is committed to presenting the finest choral works and promoting appreciation of choral music. In recent years, the Choir has been involved in commissioned choral works premieres of Taiwan composers. Its goal is to enrich Asia’s choral literature, educate and inspire the audience by providing passionate performances of traditional and contemporary choral music through innovative programming, creative educational outreach and collaborative performances with other distinguished composers and musicians. |
