Chen Yun-Hung (Conductor)
Chen Yun-Hung, Artistic Director of Taiwan Choral Music Centre and experienced choral conductor, was graduated from the Conducting Department of Die Hochshule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Wien in Austria in 1991, and received her Master Degree from the Music Education Department of Westminster Choir College in Princeton in the United States in 1999. She has led her choirs to perform in Italy, Belgium, Austria, Spain, England and Estonia, and has won many international awards and honors.
In 2006, Chen led the Taipei Chamber Singers to Hungary to participate in the International Béla Bartók Choral Competition in Debrecen, and won the Grand Prize and the First Prize in the category of chamber choir. Chen also won the Special Conductor Prize and is invited to be the judicator of the International Béla Bartók Choral Competition in Debrecen in 2008.
In 2005, Chen led the Taipei Chamber Singers to Germany to participate in the Brahms International Choral Competition in Wernigerode and won the Best Conductor Prize and the First Gold Medal. In 2004, Chen led the Taipei Huachin Children’s Choir to participate in the International Choral Competition of Olympia 2004, and won gold and silver medals. 2002 saw Chen lead the Taipei Century Choir to Estonia to participate in the International A-Cappella Choral Folksong Competition, where they won the First Prize. In 2001, Chen led the Taipei Materine Choir to Spain to participate in the International Choral Folksong Competition, and won the silver medal. In 2000, Chen led the Taipei Century Choir again to Austria to participate in the International Choral Competition of Olympia 2000 in Linz, and won gold and silver medals. In 1998, Chen and the Taipei Century Choir were invited to the Grand Premio Europeo concert in Gorizia in Italy. In 1997, Chen led the Taipei Century Choir to Italy to take part in the International Competition of C.A.Seghizzi, and won the Gran Premio Europeo Prize. Chen also won the “Best Interpretation” and the “Best Conductor” prizes. In 1996, Chen led the Taipei Chamber Singers to the U.K. to participate in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, and won gold and bronze medals. In 1995, Chen led Taipei Chamber Singers to Austria to take part in the International Competition of Spittal an Drau, and won silver and bronze medals. Chen’s performance was also widely complimented by all the judges. In 1994, Chen led the Taipei Chamber Singers to Italy to participate in the International Competition of Guido d’Arezzo, and won the gold, silver and bronze medals. In December the same year, she was invited to perform in the Music Hall of Presidential Office and was honoured by the President.
Chen has been very active in developing choral music education in Taiwan. She emphasizes the importance of the conductor as a full musician in order to lead the choir through different interpretations to move the audience and as well as the performers themselves. |
